Using the app
Terms of Use
Hello, and the basics
Welcome! These Terms of Use are the agreement between you and Roca & Co., LLC, a Louisiana limited liability company ("we," "us"), for the Dianne · The Matriarch's Map app and matriarchsmap.com (together, "the Service"). We've kept them as plain as we could. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. You accept them by ticking the box when you first open the app. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
Effective date: October 20, 2026.
The short version
- Readings are for reflection and fun, not advice.
- Dianne is an AI. She can get things wrong, so trust your own judgment.
- Subscriptions renew until you cancel them in your App Store or Google Play settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel them.
- Be kind, use the app for yourself, and don't try to break it or get around Dianne's safeguards.
- What you write stays yours.
- If something goes wrong, talk to us first.
This summary is here to help; the full Terms below are what count.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 to use the Service, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you're 13 to 17 (or not yet an adult where you live), you may use it only with your parent's or guardian's permission, and your parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Your app store may also ask a parent to approve downloads or purchases. Dianne's AI features, the Reading Room and her journal reflections, are for people 18 and older. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet these requirements.
For reflection and fun
The Service offers cardology readings, a traditional system that links playing cards to birth dates. Readings are for personal reflection and entertainment only. They aren't predictions to rely on, and they aren't science.
Nothing in the Service is medical, psychological, legal, financial, or relationship advice, and it's no substitute for a qualified professional. Please don't make important decisions about your health, money, safety, or relationships based on a reading. If you're in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line.
Dianne is AI (in the app, we call it SI)
Dianne is an artificial intelligence, not a person, however warm she sounds. Her replies are generated by AI models from Anthropic. We choose which models and settings to use for each plan and may change them over time to improve the Service. The card calculations come from the app, but Dianne's wording is generated and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misremember what you told her. Use your own judgment. You can review and delete what Dianne remembers any time, and switch Dianne off in Account; while she's off, nothing is sent to Anthropic.
Reporting a reply. If one of Dianne's replies seems offensive, harmful or just plain wrong, use Report on that reply in the app. We receive the reply, the question it answered and anything you add, and we review reports to improve her safeguards (see the Privacy Policy).
Subscriptions
Some features, including conversations with Dianne and her memory, need a paid subscription.
| Plan | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Inner Circle (monthly) | 5 questions a day with Dianne, journal reflections counted as questions, and Dianne's memory |
| Confidante (monthly or yearly) | A weekly allowance for Dianne instead of a daily count (what you use comes back seven days later), deeper, more considered readings, more of your conversation kept in mind, journal reflections, and Dianne's memory |
The app shows each plan's price and length, in your currency, before you buy. Confidante includes everything in Inner Circle. Subscriptions are for people 18 and older.
- Price and length: as shown in the app before you buy.
- Auto-renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the same price until you cancel. On Apple devices, it renews unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your Apple Account is charged within the 24 hours before the period ends. On Google Play, you can cancel any time before the renewal date, and your subscription then ends when the current period ends. Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Play account.
- Cancelling: manage or cancel in your device's subscription settings (Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Google: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions). A heads-up: deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription. After you cancel, you keep access until the end of the paid period.
- Refunds: purchases are handled by Apple or Google, and refund requests go through them under their policies. If you ask Apple for a refund, you agree that we may tell Apple, through RevenueCat, how you've used your subscription (such as how long you've subscribed and how much of the current period has passed) so Apple can decide. We never share your conversations or journal for this.
- Price changes: we'll give advance notice as the app store requires, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
Fair use, and the house rules
To keep the Service affordable and available for everyone, conversations with Dianne have limits that depend on your plan (see Subscriptions), plus a limit on how many questions can be sent per minute. When you reach a limit, Dianne will tell you when you can ask again. We may adjust limits, and we'll tell you in the app before reducing what a paid plan includes.
The house rules are simple: be kind, and don't break things. You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything illegal, or to harass, threaten, or harm anyone
- try to make Dianne produce harmful content, or get around her safeguards
- reverse-engineer, copy, scrape, or resell the Service or its content
- use the Service or its content, such as our card interpretations, art and writing, to train or build AI models
- overload our systems, use bots, or access the Service other than through the app or website
- use the Service in a way that breaks Anthropic's Usage Policy
Your content, and other people's
What you write (journal pages, questions, the people you add) stays yours. You give us permission to process it only as needed to run the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
When you add someone else's name and birthday, you confirm you have a right to use that information, and you're responsible for how you use readings about them. Be kind with what you learn.
Readings Dianne writes for you are yours to keep and share for personal, non-commercial use.
Our content
A lot of care went into the cards, the art and the writing. The app, website, card art, card interpretations, written content, design, and the names "Dianne" and "The Matriarch's Map" belong to Roca & Co., LLC or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, redistribute, or build a competing product from our content.
Disclaimers and limits on liability
Every app has this part. Here's ours, as plainly as we can put it.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Roca & Co., LLC and its members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for decisions you make based on a reading. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US $50.
These limits do not apply to liability for intentional or gross fault, or for physical injury, or to anything else the law does not allow us to limit, including under the Louisiana Civil Code. Nothing here limits rights you have that the law says cannot be waived.
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable costs if someone else brings a claim against us because you misused the Service or broke these Terms.
The companies behind the scenes
The Service relies on others: Apple and Google run the app stores and payments, RevenueCat manages subscriptions, Supabase hosts our server, Netlify hosts the website, and Anthropic provides the AI model. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their parts, and we aren't responsible for their services. When you use the app, you also agree to follow any third-party terms that apply, such as your mobile carrier's.
Your phone, your account
There's no password to remember: the app identifies itself to our server with a random account ID, and your information lives on your phone. That also means anyone who can unlock your phone may be able to see what's in the app, so keep a passcode on it; you can also lock your Soul Journal with Face ID or your passcode. If you think someone has misused your account, tell us at support@matriarchsmap.com.
Ideas and messages
We love hearing ideas. If you send us one, we may use it without owing you anything (thank you in advance). We send notices about the Service in the app or on matriarchsmap.com, and when you write to us, we reply to the address you wrote from.
If we part ways
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or misuse the Service. Sections that by their nature should continue (ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, disputes) survive.
If something goes wrong (governing law and disputes)
We'd much rather fix a problem over email than in a courtroom. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@matriarchsmap.com and try to resolve it informally for 30 days. Any claim not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court.
Apple App Store terms
Apple asks every app with its own terms to include these. If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store:
- These Terms are between you and Roca & Co., LLC only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as the App Store's Usage Rules allow, including use by others through Family Sharing where it applies.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for maintaining and supporting the app. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app, if any. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to meet a warranty are our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims by you or anyone else about the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If anyone claims that the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app.
- Send any questions, complaints or claims about the app to us, using the contact details at the end of these Terms.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and once you accept them, Apple may enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Google Play terms
If you downloaded the app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your use of Google Play. Google isn't responsible for the app, and the subscription terms above apply to purchases made through Google Play.
The rest of the legal bits
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given it up. You may not transfer these Terms to anyone else; we may transfer them as part of a merger, sale or reorganization of our business.
California users
Under California Civil Code § 1789.3, California users are entitled to this notice. The Service is provided by Roca & Co., LLC, 318 Elmwood Dr, Lafayette, LA 70503 (support@matriarchsmap.com), and its prices are shown in the app before you buy. If you have a complaint, please contact us first. You can also reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
Changes, and how to reach us
We may update these Terms. If a change is important, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you're accepting the updated Terms.
Thanks for reading all the way to the end. Hardly anyone does, and we appreciate it.
